**Akshay Kumar, Bhushan Gagrani, Vishvas Mote, Anusha Iyer Lead BMC MEGA Tree Plantation Drive in Mumbai**
In a significant effort to contribute to environmental sustainability, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar along with Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani,
led a tree plantation event planting 390 trees. The event, organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in collaboration with The Tree Authority, Fit Mumbai and Make Earth Green Again (MEGA) Foundation, saw the initiation of planting of 300 Bahawa trees along the Western Express Highway near Kherwadi.
The initiative is a tribute by Akshay Kumar to his late parents, Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia. Joining him will be prominent figures such as Mumbai’s Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Deputy Commissioner Vishvas Mote, and Dr. (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of the MEGA Foundation. The event underscores the collective effort needed to combat climate change and promote greener urban environments.
This tree plantation drive is part of a larger movement to increase green cover in Mumbai, aligning with similar activities conducted globally to mark significant environmental observances. After the Cyclone Tauktae, *Adopt a fallen Tree pit and be a Guardian of Nature* campaign was implemented with celebrities like Hema Malini, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha, Anupam Kher, Bappi Lahiri, Ajay Devgn with son Yug Devgn, Sonu Nigam, Sangram Singh, Ranvir Shorey and son Haroon Shorey, Rohit Shetty, Ayesha Jhulka among many other participated in similar BMC- MEGA initiatives, highlighting the growing trend of involving public figures in environmental causes.
The choice of Bahawa trees is strategic due to their resilience and ability to thrive in urban settings, thereby ensuring higher survival rates and contributing to the city’s biodiversity.
Such noble causes make a tangible impact on the environment. Besides that, activities like tree plantation does the much-needed digital detox and gets citizens to do physical activities that leads to the Fit Mumbai Movement leaded by Shri Vishvas Mote from BMC.
Let us come together to make our city greener and honor the legacy of those who have contributed to our well-being.
